Rurouni Kenshin is a story filled with sword fights, dramatic tragedies, humor, love, hate, and a whole array of human emotions. It's really a great story to began with. There are some unexpected twists and turns (as long as you stay away from reading the summaries b/c that would just ruin the suspense), and there are also some sad/depressing parts if you like those. Rurouni Kenshin is really a cool anime to watch. Besides that, it has what... YUMMY guys & yeah... there are the chicks. The artwork's pretty nice too... anyway on to what it's about...

This story is placed in the year 1868, when the Meiji government is still young and some corrupted politicians still run the country. Some people are disillusioned with the current government in Japan and have the intent of overthrowing the government. That's when a man who goes by the name of Himura Kenshin steps in. For ten years, he wandered through Japan doing who knows what when he met Kaoru, an ecstatic and optimistic 17 year old girl. When she found out he was the legendary Battousai, she told him that he could stay at her dojo since she didn't care about his past. All in all, he fights in the name of justice and he tries to save lives in the process without shedding blood. But what is his purpose? What is this past that he has that he shuns? Why is he called the Battousai? Why does he choose to fight with a reverse-bladed sword instead of a normal sword?

Throughout the story we learn of his interesting & yet very sad past. We also see how Kenshin plays a part in everyone's lives and how much it effects them. The story is also about how Kenshin tries not to revert himself back to the Battousai... back to the person he was in the past especially when he has been a peaceful rurouni for the past decade. The story's also about how he's haunted by people from his past and tries his best to defend those who he loves from them.

Information
When Shinta's parents died, he was sold off to some slave traders. After being ambushed by some murderers, Hiko comes by and saves Shinta. Then Hiko gave Shinta a new name (Himura Kenshin) since it was too childish for a swordsman. Then Hiko taught Kenshin the Hiten Mitsurugi Ryu where Kenshin perfected the technique. Then Kenshin left to join up with the Ishinshishi to fight in revolution. This was where he got the infamous name: Hitokiri Battousai. After becoming being fed up by the bloodshed (and the death of his 1st love) he leaves his past behind by becoming a wanderer. Ten years later, he comes to Tokyo and meets Kaoru.
This little red-haired samurai is a good natured fellow. He seems to be happy all the time and is really determined to save the lives of other people and protect his buddies. He would not kill but only knock the opponent unconscious with his sakabatou since he vowed a long time ago not to ever kill again. In fact, he's a bit of a pacifist. Kenshin is also a great cook compared to Kaoru. Kenshin always cooks, cleans, washes and plays with the kids. Since Kenshin is vertically challenged, he is usually mistaken to be weak. Even though Kenshin's skills deteriorated after some years of not killing, he's not weak. In fact, he still has a bit of the Battousai in him. When the situation or the fight gets really bad, the Battousai within him resurfaces and immediately changes Kenshin's personality.
